It’s marketed as a smart choice.

Clean. Light. Good for you.

But nutritionists say one popular “healthy” food might not be as good as people think.

We’re talking about flavored yogurt.

At first glance, it seems like the perfect option—packed with protein, calcium, and probiotics. It’s often seen as a go-to for breakfast or a quick snack.

But here’s the part many people don’t realize.

A lot of flavored yogurts are loaded with added sugar.

In some cases, a single serving can contain as much sugar as a dessert.

“People focus on the word ‘yogurt’ and assume it’s healthy,” nutrition experts explain. “But once you add flavorings, syrups, and sweeteners, it can completely change the nutritional value.”

That doesn’t mean yogurt itself is bad.

Plain yogurt—especially ones with minimal ingredients—can still be a great choice.

It’s the extras that make the difference.

Other “healthy” foods that often surprise people include:

The takeaway?

Not everything labeled “healthy” actually is.
